Computer Science Job Market Dwarfs other STEM Fields

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer science will be one of the fastest growing U.S. job markets in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), at least until 2018. Almost 75% of new U.S. science and engineering jobs will be in computer science, with only 16% in traditional engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. Statistics indicate that annual STEM job openings through 2018 will come close to 140,000, while college graduates in computer science will barely top 40,000. This means that there will be over three positions available for every CS graduate!

Now is a great time to get prepared for these emerging positions in computer science! The majority of the positions available will be in fields in which IUPUI Computer Science excels, with 27% of new CS positions being in software engineering, and 21% being in networking. Computer Science graduates are well prepared to take up any of the new positions, from database administration to research.
