Phoenix Server Official Name/CS Password Help

HI! Welcome to your televised section of N241. Below is how you figure out your offical server name/address and how you discover your CS account username and password.

Server Name

The official server name/address for your work here in the Computer Science Department is:

phoenix.cs.iupui.edu

Notice the spelling of phoenix! (The "o" comes before the "e".) This is the address you type in when accessing the phoenix server. This is the domain name too.

Username & Password

  1. Your username will be the 1st letter of your 1st name, 1st 7 letters of your last name. For example, I am Margaret Lion so my user name is "mlion".
  2. Your first time log-in password is the 1st letter of your 1st name, last 4 digits of your SSN, 1st three letters of your last name. For example, I would type in "m(the digits that I'm not giving for security reasons)lio".
  3. When you log-in for the first time you will get an NIS command. Type in the password given to you again.
  4. NOW change your password to something that you will remember.
