DS9 and Klingon ... Huh?

For those Star Trek fans out there, DS9 and Klingon do have a meaning.  DS9 is a space hub located off the planet of Bajor and assists with 'policing' a worm hole.  A Klingon is an 'alien' race which has hailed the infamous Lieutenant Commander Worf.  So what is a space hub and an alien doing in the CSCI department?

DS9 and Klingon are actually names of two servers.  It is the current trend for system administrators to name servers with a fun and easy to remember names.  (Elvis is alive here at Purdue!)  So what is the difference?

DS9 is the server which is storage for your files, including your email and upcoming HTML assignments.  It is important that you work on this site.  The server was designed for this type of work.  Additionally, you will be able to access different types of text editors on the DS9.  The most popular is Emacs and the most current version is located here.

Klingon is also a server.  However, it's primary function is for Internet usage.  It is the server which completes the http and email protocols ... among many other things.  This is what Klingon is configured to do.  Therefore, working on your homework, etc., on Klingon will only slow you and everyone else down.

Note:  this description was done in English and at a basic level.  It's not meant to be technical.
