Why choose a minor in mathematical sciences?

An undergraduate minor in mathematics is useful in many fields. A scientist or engineer may need a knowledge of differential equations and linear algebra, while someone in business or a social science may need a background in probability or statistics.

Minor requirements

The course requirements for a minor in mathematics are: 

  • The course sequence MATH 16500, 16600, 17100, and 26100.
  • Two additional courses selected from mathematics courses (MATH) numbered 26600 or higher or from statistics courses (STAT) numbered 35000 or higher.

Additional requirements for a minor in mathematics:

  • Nine (9) credit hours of the minor must be completed at IUPUI.
  • The grade in each course submitted for the minor must be C (2.0) or higher.
  • Correspondence courses may not be used to fulfill requirements for the minor.

Apply for a minor

Application for the Math Minor should only be made after completing all six required courses (including those which have been transferred from another university) and only if a C or better has been achieved in each course.

Minors are posted in December and May and applicants will receive notification via email when the certificate is ready for pick up in the Math Department office.
