Sublists of DRS members have sprung up around the world. These regional groups, or mini-lists, are generally used to contact dead runners in a specific geographical area. You might use a sublist to exchange race information, plan encounters, or organize a gathering for visiting dead runners. Anyone can join these lists by contacting the person or address listed below. If you know, for example, that you will be traveling to San Francisco on business, you can ask to be temporarily subscribed to dead-runners-bay and that way follow discussions about where to eat, when to run, where to meet, and so forth. USENET newsgroups provide ongoing discussions of every variety. Of particular interest is rec.running. This group covers many of the same running topics that frequently appear on DRS, and is oriented toward training techniques and advice. Even if you are not interested in subscribing, the rec.running FAQ is full of good information. Topics range from Avoiding Dogs to Marathon Training to Injuries. The FAQ can be collected via FTP from rtfm.mit.edu in directory pub/usenet-by-group/news.answers/running-faq in files Part1, Part2 and Part3. Other newsgroups that may be of interest are misc.fitness, rec.sport.triathlon, and various bicycle groups. There are a couple of mailing lists to consider as well. For Those of you who yawn at the marathon distance, try the ULTRA list. The listowners are Dave Combs and Joe Jurczyk.
